Central Park Tour: Guided exploration of the North Woods, Saturday, June 7, 10:30 a.m.

Central Park’s North Woods is one of the best-kept secrets of the park. The forty-acre woodland epitomizes the desire of landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux to bring the healing powers of nature into a concrete jungle. This ninety-minute custom tour, given by Catherine Fredman ’80, an experienced Central Park Conservancy guide, will showcase the newly completed restoration of an area that once was synonymous with urban blight. We’ll see the reimagining of a playground and public pool, then follow a winding stream through the woods past three waterfalls to one of the loveliest bodies of water in the park.

Catherine Fredman ’80 is a ghostwriter who has collaborated on six bestselling leadership strategy books and memoirs. She was a volunteer tour guide with the Central Park Conservancy for twelve years. Despite living in New York for most of her life, she still finds new things to discover and delight in in the park.
